Advertising That Works- Contextual Ads
Author: Mika
The answer is when it falls under the remit of contextual advertising. There is no doubt that many people have become immune to the more blatant forms of advertising that the internet is known for over the years.
Take banner advertising for example. While there are always exceptions, banner ads generally receive quite a poor response compared to many other forms of advertising that can be found online today. People are often less keen to accept blatant promotions that come in such a strong way.
That’s one of the reasons why contextual ads have been gathering in popularity in recent times. People don’t
view them as harshly as some other advertisements, and the main reason
for this is because they are in line with the content of the site
they are appearing on.
This is a simple yet effective way to monetize your website, keep
your visitors entertained, provide them with the information they
want and get away from the image of being a heavy promoter as well.
Let’s suppose your website is about the latest technological gadgets, for example. If you were to have general ads that weren’t related to the theme of your site, your visitors are much less likely to click on them, and may even wonder why they are there. When the ads don’t
match the content, they look far more like a money making venture
than anything that will help them.
But by having contextual ads peppered within the content itself, your visitors will appreciate the extra information and may be more likely to click on an ad or even make a purchase.
As such, these types of ads aren’t viewed in the same way as other forms of advertising that webmasters can choose from. The end purpose may still be the same – to make an extra profit from your website – but
the method in getting from A to B is very different.
If you haven’t yet thought about trying a contextual advertising network of any kind, there has never been a better time to do so. Make sure you do your homework first and think about which one would meet your needs the best. You should also consider which network consistently gets a good press.
If you do all that before making your choice, you will be looking after your visitors as well as yourself, and choosing the best option for you.
