After all, the affiliate is doing the leg work in promoting the merchants site, so they should be rewarded with a generous percentage of the sales.

Can it work for anyone?

Yes it can, but you need the proper instruction on how to make money from the internet. There are so many ways to send traffic to a merchant’s site that without proper instruction you will be spinning your wheels and not getting anywhere. There is Search Engine Optimization, Pay-Per-Click advertising done on search engines and submitting articles on Article Directories with links back to the merchant site.
